Strange Episodes

I am a 34 year old female. Since Aug. 2007, I have been having "strange episodes" of numbness, pins and needles, burning in my muscles, weakness, muscle spasms, and pain that would occur on my left side. I have also experienced blurred vision and fatigue. Recently it has been effecting my right leg also.

These episodes would come on, peak, and gradually go away. These episodes would last for weeks and I would have trouble walking and have balance issues due to not feeling my toes or feet. Some of my muscles would be in a constant flex state even though some would be relaxed. I began to shake when standing or sitting or if I tried to bend my toes. My toes, when my legs are effected, will not bend and have no strength.

I went to a neurologist and had lost of test ran. I've had several MRIs, LP, EMG, SSEP, and blood work. I have been tested for everything that could mimic MS. Everything has came back normal except for the MRIs of my brain which showed 4-5 small (2mm) high signal intensity lesions in the white matter of the centrum semiovale superiorly. They also found something in my spine MRI but said it was too small to see.

One radiologist believed the lesions in my brain could be early demyelinating process, but my neurologist said they were non-specific. My neurologist did say he saw something in my spine but said it was too small to see. Since I've been going to this neurologist, all my MRIs have been done on a high field open MRI.

Does my symptoms sound like MS? Would a higher tesla MRI show MS lesions better compared to an high field open MRI (which according to there website the one I've been going to is a 0.7)?

Hi,

You probably should seek a second opinion from another neurologist, and yes, a higher tesla MRI might show more.

You can go to the patient to patient MS forum and post there also.  No doctors there, but people generally have good input / advice.
