Tethered Cord - Post Op Do's and Dont's

My husband had a Laminectomy and a Tethered Cord release 3 weeks ago. The doctor told him to not bend, lift, or twist for 2 weeks. Also to not drive. He was told to start taking short walks around the house and then increase them. We have been doing what was told but his pain is getting worse. He has intense back, leg, abdomen pain on and off. I tell him perhaps it is the nerves coming back together. What can we do to prevent this Chiari that I am reading about? Nobody mentioned physical therapy. Would that help? Does UltraSound prevent scar tissue from building up? Would wet heat help like from a spa? Is there a lose time table on how long a recovery is?

Hello - None of the doctors we have seen have mentioned Chiari. The doctor also didn't mention much about PT. He said swimming may help but that was about it.
My friend has Chiari at the base of her brain. I will get on that board and check it out.
How long ago was your surgery?

Hi......do u know ur DH doesn't already have Chiari?

The TC release surgery is a painful one and like the chiari decompression takes time to recover.

Did the dr RX PT for ur DH?...if not look into it.....

I also would like to invite u to join us in the Chiari forum here on MedHelp...we have members that have had the TC release surgery and may be able to share their experience with u and ur DH.

I was scheduled for the TC release, but it was changed to the chiari decompression....I am still recovering, but doing much better.
