Vertigo

I had vertigo for the 1st time ever in December 2014. Went to an ear specialist and was diagnosed with BPPV. Had a maneuver performed by the neurologist and seemed to have worked. I felt a little weird the days after the maneuver but eventually went away, but 2 months later the vertigo seems to be back. I've had this problem for over a month now and have no clue of what to do, I've had a ct scan, mri, and many visits to different doctors. To try to explain what I feel is very difficult because I don't have the spinning attacks of vertigo I just feel weird. Sometimes I would say off balance and hard to focus. Another thing that I almost forgot to mention is my tinnitus. I've had this for about 4 years I've learned how to live with it since there's no cure, but I wonder if all this is related. If anyone is suffering from these simtoms or have any ideas on how to treat it, can you please help. Thanks....

Also have your Vit D levels checked.  Ongoing studies are showing that people who suffer BPPV are more likely than average (over 20 times more likely) to have low levels of Vit D.

I suffered BPPV every spring for a couple of years until I finally had my level checked.  This spring I've been taking mega-doses of Vit D for the low level and no vertigo this year!

Thanks for your info just had blood work and checked for vitamin D. Vertigo seems to be gone but still have some weird symptoms. Feel light headed and can't seem to lay down on my sides cause I get a very bad nausea feeling and eventually grow up if I don't get up. Hopefully I can get answers when my results come. Thanks for your help.

No problem, just ask your doctor to forgo the standard thyroid tests T3, T4 and TSH and order the ones I mentioned in my original reply.

As far as D3 levels go, a deficiency in vitamin D leads to vitamin B12 and B-complex deficiency (neurological forms of B12-methyocobalamin- and folate-methylfolate- are more pertinent to you) and  as low vitamin D3 can affect the G/I system and its ability to absorb and assimilate certain nutrients and vitamins.
Also your D3 levels (vitamin D 25OH test) should be about 50- 60ng/ml.

Cheers,
Niko

Low thyroid function affects vitamin D levels and low vitamin D affects
thyroid function. Double edged sword, lol!

Good suggestion DHof.

Have you thyroid function checked.
Even subclinical hypothyroidism may cause this.

Search for this article: "Your Thyroid Can Make Your Ears Ring!"

For thyroid function testing you should know that standard tests only test for circulating serum thyroid hormones.
You should ask and insist for Free T3, Free T4 and Reverse T3, in order to be 1000% certain.

Cheers,
Niko
