Wilson disease

I have done cranial MRI testing. On MRI results said "".Cranial MRI indicating changed signal intensity in basal ganglia area, in both side, simetricaly what can match/fit  Wilson's disease".

Im waiting for other tests to be done.
How reliable is MRI in diagnosing Wilson's?

Hi there.

The MRI can only give a clue regarding the diagnosis of Wilson's disease, and is not that reliable in establishing the diagnosis.  Wilson's disease can have a multitude of symptoms that can aid in establishing the diagnosis, including liver cirrhosis or destruction, classic eye findings (K-F rings), and gastrointestinal symptoms.

The diagnosis can be established with the classical symptoms as well as the demonstration of increased blood copper and ceruloplasmin levels.  Some would go as far as a liver biopsy if the blood tests are still equivocal.

Regards and God bless.
