blow to the head

After a few blows to the head with the fist, how much time must pass, to be sure you are out of danger?

The only thing that helped me was 20mg Lexapro daily and an occasional lorazepam. After drinking heavily for 20 years, I think I've damaged my neurological systems. Quit alcohol almost a year ago and wonder if I'll feel better eventually.  Abuse of alcohol was probably culprit in my case.

In general, any damage comes from swelling and takes place during the first 72 hours.  That is why it is essential to go to an ER. There is a caveat. Sometimes a single punch can cause a slow bleed, which will continue to cause damage for an indefinite period of time. The other problem is that any punch to the face causes neck flexure, which can result in what is called a subluxion injury, which may begin to cause excruciating pain six months to a year down the line.
