burning feet, arms, legs, face & eyes (nerve pain)

My partner's condition has been getting progressivesly worse over the last couple of years and we can not help but think the outcome is going to be bleak.  He has had all the tests that are possible and is on all the same medication that everyone else that has this condition is on. Nothing works for very long.  Today he was prescribed a stonger dose of Norspan patch. He started out with the 5mg then progressed to the 10mg and today he is on the 15mg along with all the other medication. I just wonder how much damage all the drugs that he is on, is doing to him as well.  David was always a good spirited sole, full of life and a good laugh, but all this is changing.  The pain is so unbearable most of the time. He owns his own business and employs a number of people and worries like crazy wondering how he is going to keep it going. Each day is a sturggle and it sure shows. Isn't there anyone out there that can help us?

One day I woke up and my right knee was numb, I went all last summer trying to find out why. They did an mri of my back and discovered I had a 5.5 mm disk bulge and that was why. I had cortizone injection in my back (which made my back hurt more) and during the injections (2 weeks apart) my right knee went numb. I went to a neurologist who did extensive labs and told me it was peripheral neuropathy due to my RA and sent me away. In October I began to have crazy electrical storms in my whole body. They would begin in my legs and graduate up to my head and I couldnt see. It was so scary, I cant begin to tell you. More neurologists, its PN due to RA. No its not, idiot. I really thought it was nervous system damage from the Humira injection so I discontinued them in November. Ive been trying to control the "storms" with neurontin. I works somewhat I think. I really thought I was getting better the further I got from my last Humira injection, but the last couple weeks have been almost the worst of all. Im searching the internet for any information I can find and am wondering if you all think this could be caused by caffeine? Ive read articles both ways, it poisons us, it doesnt do harm. Im certainly going to eliminate it and see for myself, but this will take time. I like strong coffee in the morning and usually drink iced in the afternoon. If this year long nightmare is simply from my coffee intake, I might have a nervous breakdown. Its truly been a year of the darkest hell. Please feel free to respond. Btw I also had an mri of my head, no MS.
Thanks everyone

Wow!  I may be experiencing the same thing.  I drink a lot of caffeine.  14 months ago, my feet started to burn badly.  I am stopping caffeine now to see if this works.  I have a feeling it will.  Thanks for writing this.  I've had a hunch (for months) that excess caffeine intake could be causing the pain and burning.  I'll let you know.  THANK YOU!!!!

Hi everybody

I joined this site so I could tell you what has caused the awful burning I have suffered from for ten years or more.  For me it is a combination of thyroid issues plus ingesting too much caffeine.  I did a Google search and discovered that caffeine irritates the nerves.  I was so desperate I decided to try going without caffeine and it worked!  After 9 days caffeine free, the burning had gone away.  Some people either become sensitive to caffeine or their system can't tolerate the levels they are ingesting.  My thyroid levels were out of whack also, although not by much.  The Amercian Association of Clinical Endocrinologists now says that the highest level for TSH should be 2.5 and that applies to both men and women.  These are 2 areas that definitely affect nerves.  Diet can also play a huge part in most medical conditions.  I know, because I have just been down this road and have found that diet controls my fibromyalgia, going without tea and coffee stops the burning and in my case it was almost soul destroying.  To find that it was mostly down to the tea I was drinking was an astounding discovery.  Going without gluten has stopped the chronic fatigue.

Here's a new one re burning feet and legs.  This has been happening to me the past couple of months and strangely enough, it happens when I am having burning in the vaginal area......a UTI, yeast infection, or worse (I have a doctor's appt. but previous experience tells me it won't help).  I can't find anything on the web that suggests anyone else has these simultaneous symptoms.

Anyone?

I had the samething your partner has.  I was low in the B12 vitamin.  I am a total
vegetarian and was neglecting my B's.  How is your partner doing with his diet?
Could be a nutritional deficiency.
