This is to let readers know about me, the mom. When I was about 7 - 8, I started to have walking difficulties, My feet would bent inwards and I would be walking on the outer part of my feet. I was given corrective shoes to wear by the Singapore General Hosp. I became progressively worse over the years and by the time I was a teenager, I was unable to walk, control my hands or sit up without support. I could not balance myself. My dad would bring me to my class every school day. By the time I was twenty, I was having spasmodic fits, couldnt swallow properly - I was actually waiting to die. My brother, who was an intern in the Singapore hosp, saw a new drug being used on parkinsons patients and he thought their symthoms were quite similar to mine. He suggested I try the drug. It was like grasping at straws - but I had no hope left - so, I took the drug. The first few hours, I was able to hold up a book to read. A week later, I was learning to walk. I went on to recover fully from my disorder (which, to this day, drs here have not given a name or identified) I got married in my late twenties and gave birth to three sons. This son that I am writing about is my youngest. The two elder brothers are alright physically. Jon, my 18 yr old son, was diagnosed with mild cerebellar atrophy on 11/9/2012. I was told by the neorologist that he inherited the disorder from me. Needless to say, I am filled with despair and guilt. If only I had found out more about this disorder before I planned my family. Since 11/9, I have been unable to think of anything else but Jon becoming worse and ending up like me when I was a teenager. If there's anyone out there who can advise me how to help Jon, please write to me. He wants to be a chef - he is so inspired by Gordon Ramsey that he would not study anything else. Now...I can only pray and hope that God will show mercy to my poor boy.
Thank you for your response to my letter. Yes, he exercises daily to relieve the tightness in his legs. I am also giving him colostrum and egg yolk extract in an attmept to slow down the progression of the condition.
Hi I am not a Dr, and know very little of this condition, but did read that Physiotherapy intervention can be of some benefit....do look into this possibility and I pray all goes well for ur son.
