concussion

I am 18 years old and last fall during Rugby season I had a concussion. I was out of conscious for around 4 minutes. And now yesterday I was snowboarding and fell multiple times on my head while not wearing a helmet. My head imideatly felt pain in the same spot of where I felt the pain during my concussion in rugby. Im not sure if I lost consciousness or not during one of the falls. And now I am starting the wrestling season I dont know if i should take this season off or not?

Hi,

It may be in your best interest to avoid the wrestling season to avoid further injuries to your head. Repeated head injuries can result in brain damage and as you may already know brain damage is irreversible.

Thanks

If I were you I'd have to say goodbye to sports, although I know how hard it may be. You have to start thinking about your life after high school. One day you will hopefully have a family and you will want to grow old with them and remember who they are. I've personally received multiple concussions. 4 from football (not including times when I got dazed and kept playing), and another two serious ones outside of football. As of now I'm 20 years old. I feel perfectly fine most of the time, however, there was a time earlier this year when I had constant headaches for months, some of it was caffeine related, but I think some had to do with football too. Although I feel fine now who knows what I will be like when I'm older? Trust me when I was in high school I loved football with every ounce in my body, I loved to nail people as hard as I could, but now that I've quit playing I deeply regret ever playing, because now all I want to do is be able to grow old and enjoy my family. Hopefully God will bless me, I feel as if he already has in the sense that I decided not to play college football. I hope you make the right choice.
