drug induced coma, time frame

I was wondering how long someone can be in a drug induced (barb coma).  I gather this is very hard on the body.  We have a family member that is in such a coma who has had seizures.  They are trying to wean her off the medication now to bring her out of the coma but if she has more seizures, they will take her back to the coma state.  I am wondering how lown she could stay in this type of coma and complications of it.  thanks

Thank you, I so appreciate your response.  It is proving to be quite complex bringing this person out of their coma which was induced due to brain injury.  They are indeed bringing in another physician for some fresh ideas.  I do appreciate your taking the time to give me some ideas of where to look.

Within this link on Emedicine it has some information
about the subject.
http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/251834-treatment
A further search through that site which has clinically accurate information but as it states wouldnt' substitute for a doctor's advice might be of help as well. If this was indudced as part of a medical procedure there are specific follow up protocals. If nothing has worked out perhaps a further specialist in the field might of help. Also it would depend on
what the barbituate induced coma was designed to treat.
The follow up might depend on the specific disability or condition itself.
There should be neurologists who have specific knowledge as well
Pubmed is a helpful search engine as regards the subject as well
that you could discuss with the treating physicians. Also agencies
or organizations that are desgined to assist people with the specific condition.
