dear Dr. Sharma, I saw a neurosurgeon today he said my fusion was healing and i told him of the weakness in my arms he did some pushing and pulling things and noticed the weakness especially in my right arm i can hardly grip anything with out it falling out of my hand he did ex rays and said i can start going to the gym and lifting weights for my arms and legs no pushups or situps or anything like that he never checked to see if my nerves were intacy at least he never said anything about should i ask him about that??
Hi there. The various complications after a cervical fusion are inadequate symptom relief, failure of bone graft healing to create a fusion, nerve root damage, damage to spinal cord, infection etc. you need to discuss with your treating neurosurgeon if you have met with any of these. Your nerves in the upper right arm need to be tested to check if they are intact or there has been a break in the integrity. This will also put you in correct picture of your prognosis. Hope this helps. Take care.
