My son is 17 yo. first time he had them when he was about to have his apedix remoove he was under big stress. He was sleeping then wakes up and start ucontroloblle hands and legs jerking it last for about 10 min, he is in obsolut cancheus condition when this happens. After one year pas we were at his comp. , it happen again that day last thesame 10 min, the pattern of those jerks are thesame, Now, enother year after we went for aur hollydays to florida and it happening every night, he gous to bed sleeps for 40min to 2.00 hour and it starts again. He talled me that after each episode he has a lot of energy, During each episode he would wake up and becouse he is very scert he starts walking back and force, while his jerks with his hands and legs, they look to me like shock-like contractions. Us usuale they last 10 - 15 min, when they stop hi gous to bad and sleeps normal untill the morning. Sims to me it happens only when we are on the trip or vacation. Is anybody expirience something like that?
Yes, I get it quite often, may be 3-4 nights in 1 week. Each of thes nights, sometime the jerks/movements mmay be just 3-4 time s, but sometimes more with gaps in between. The catch is that the patient himself/herself will not realise these and it is left to the other person(s) sleeping alongside to note/notice such movements.
YES. When I am overtired, both physically & mentally, I get the PLMSs more (Periodic Limb Movement Syndrome). Also, anxiety increases the symptoms in RLS, which I have experienced myself.
Medication {basically Pramipaxole alonwith some sedative} over the last 10 months has, most probably, improved the jerking-symptoms in me a bit, though the side-effects are a bit harsh on the body [can't help it]. A study in the US indicated "benefits after a mean follow-up of 27.2 months" of use of Pramipaxole {source : RLS Foundation, USA}.
I still feel that u need to consult a neurologist before going into the details of RLS as proper & correct diagnosis will be the starting point for the managment of the condition.
Best wishes & speedy recovery to your hubby
thanks for that, do you get it quite often or do you find it is when you are over tired, has the medication helped you, and did the doctor give any reason for the condition?
I had (and have it too right now) similar jerks, rather movements, of my limbs only (both lower & upper), particularly left limbs. Like you, when my wife nudges me on, i get a bit cooler [she says]. A neurologist diagonised as having Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) and is currently on medication (pramipaxole). I think you need to consult an Neurologist for proper investigation as to what is the root cause of his jerks, specifically that they occur every 8 seconds. My experience/view => no need to worry at all at this stage as the jerks are not major, but slightly.
