I have lupus it is not known what causes it only it is an autoimmune disorder and not as far as i know brought on by an accident...My father had this and he passed away in 2006 with a brain stem stroke it can run in families as my grandfather had the same problems although long time before i was born he passed away..I Have also two Children age 24, 16 girls who have an illness linked to mine as it is raynauds which I started with at the age of 13..My eldest daughter also has b12 deficiency another autoimmune problem. And my youngest as Epilepsy..My lupus does effect my central nervous system and also kidneys..Of which i have lost one...I take steroids and immune suppressants for life along with bone and lots of other tablets "26" per day to keep me as active as i can be. I am lots better than i was i must had as i was in my wheel chair 2 years ago and needed my husband to bath me but with tablets i can go swimming most days.
I do worry about my girls though and hope there illness is kept under control. With tablets and injections of b12 it should be ok for a few years yet.
oh and my first relapse was in 1992 after giving birth to my youngest daughter she was 10 week prem due to my kidney problems
hope this helps x
Hi,
Don't know how much this will help, but I have had lupus for about 20 years. I was told by my rheumatologist that lupus is one of many autoimmune dieseases, no one really is sure how they are contracted, but it is a predisposition which often causes all such diseases. In my case, it came from my mother's side of the family. I don't think you could get it from an injury, since it originates from your own immune system.
