Planum sphenidale meningioma

My friend is suffering from headaches for the past 6 months onwards. Recently doctor sent her for scanning and the reports suggested 'she has symptoms of planum spheniodale meningioma'. I would like to know more about this. And the topmost surgeon to cure this.

Please help me. Thanks in advance. I appreciate your time and patience.

Thanks Simran.

My friend is in India at present. Can you please suggest few experts in India? this would be of great help.

Else should plan accordingly.

Also would like to know how soon it should be treated?

At present she is suffering from meningitis? Am not sure whether its because of this or its totally different.

Initially, she visited doctor for headache 6 months ago. 1 week back she visited her doctor again for the same reason. The doctor scanned her and told its planum spheniodale meningioma. After 2 days she visited doctor because of fever, headache. The doctor did lumb puncture and told its meningitis.

At present she is in hospital being treated for meningitis.

I would like to know whether these two things are interrelated or need to be treated individually.

Please help me.

I appreciate your time and patience.

Hello johny249,

The following information would be of great help.
Planum sphenoidale meningioma is the meningioma attached to the dura of the planum sphenoidale, lying on the midline posterior to the olfactory nerve meningiomas and anterior to the tuberculum sella meningiomas. When large they cause upward displacement of the chiasm and can extend over the sella, into the hypothalamus and the base of the frontal lobe. MR, especially on coronal sections, nicely depicts the broad-based, extra-axial lesion.

This would need a surgery from an expert hand. The following list would be of help,

Prevedello DM, Thomas A, Gardner P, Snyderman CH, Carrau RL, Kassam AB.

Department of Neurological Surgery, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA.

Laufer I, Anand VK, Schwartz TH.

Department of Neurological Surgery, Weill Cornell Medical College, New York Presbyterian Hospital, New York, New York 10021, USA

Dusick JR, Esposito F, Kelly DF, Cohan P, DeSalles A, Becker DP, Martin NA.

Divisions of Neurosurgery and Endocrinology, University of California at Los Angeles School of Medicine, USA.
