Dear Dr.Sharma,
Thank you for your reply.
I just have heard a protein called Oncomodulin has recently been discovered which fastens the speed of damaged optic nerves. It has been a great hope for me to help my father (Mohamad243)who was poisoned by methanol 6 months ago.
we have heard that it's supposed to be offered to the patients as a drug in 2013. I have the article of the scientists who have written this in USA and can send it to you if you like.
Do you think it may be useful for my father?
Thank you for your care..

dear and welcome to the medhelp forum. Methanol intoxication is associated with severe damage to visual pathways, which can cause permanent blindness. Prolonged visual impairment is an unfavorable prognostic sign and vision recovery is difficult later. Usually steroids and vitamin B1 are effective in treating severe methanol optic neuropathy.
Fomepizole is an inhibitor of alcohol dehydrogenase is a safe and effective in the treatment of methanol poisoning. Initial treatment is with ethanol. Hope this helps.
