What causes nerve pain in left arm when swallowing?

I get a strange "pins and needles" / burning sensation on my left arm between my elbow and my wrist, which I experience as a brief wave/pulse at precisely the same time as I swallow food. It doesn't happen with liquid or with non bulky food. It's starting to worry me as to what is causing it. I've seen a physiotherapist who is also confused as to what might cause this - is it a serious cause for concern? It's been steadily getting worse / more intense since starting around 2 months ago. The pain pulses down my ulnar nerve and lasts a couple of seconds, exactly whilst I'm swallowing.
