pain in elbow

I am a female who is 45 years old.  Since Feb. I had trouble with my shoulders but that healed. But now I am having pain in my right elbow. It hurts to raise my right arm. And when I do I feel a very painful sharp sensation in my right arm. At night it hurts the most. To pick up even small objects is very painful to me. I am wondering what is wrong with me.

Hi Sharon,

Thank you for your help. I went to my doctor on Thursday and he told me that I have tennis Elbow. Right now he had me get a tennis elbow cast. And has me putting ice on in ten minutes 4 times a day. I really appreciate all the help that you gave me.

I would suggest going to see an orthopedic surgeon right away.  If you go now, you could avoid serious problems later.  Usually, arm pain indicates cervical neck problems.  I would get an MRI as soon as possible.  Early detection helps prevent future unrepairable problems.  If you find out early, you could go to physical therapy and be just fine.
