undiagnosed neurological symptoms..help!!!

hello, I am looking for anyone out there who might be going through the same thing. about two and a half months ago, i had a terrible anxiety attack one night. rapid heart rate, trouble breathing the whole nine yards.  the next day i woke up with a twitch in my left eye. this lasted for a few days and then other strange symptoms started to happen. within a few days i noticed that my foot was feeling funny in my shoe and wierd when i walked on it.  then i noticed that my hand ,arm and face felt funny too.  i can draw a line down the middle of my body and the left half feels like it belongs to someone else.  my skin is not completely numb as i can feel pressure but touch and temperature are affected.  very tired, somewhat depressed. i went to my doctor who and had mri brain w/wo contrast which was normal.  he sent me to a neurologist and he did bloodwork(normal) and he gave me a few prescriptions to try.  He didn't seem too overly concerned about my left side being partially numb.  He prescribed an antidepressant and neurontin.  he thinks my nervous system is overactive and the anxiety triggered this.  my question is, has anyone else ever been through this and why has the "numbness" lasted so long?

Hi,

I know exactly what you are talking about.  When my neurological problems started in 2003, I too felt as if (half of my body was divided by a line).  It was my right side that was affected with numbness, tingling etc.  I actually could feel this line cross down over my nose.  I also had blurry vision.

I felt as if (I were out of body).  You are not alone.  I would continue to see your neurologist on a regular basis.  Sometimes, as I have found out myself, it can take a long time to get a diagnosis for some neurological diseases.

You are most likely depressed and having panic attacks because of your terrible symptoms.  I too had panic attacks because it is your body trying to fight whatever invasion is going on.  It is the "fight or flight response."  You can Google this for the definition.

At this time, I myself, am in what we call "limboland" 7 years duration for multiple sclerosis.

I hope you find your answers; it just takes time.

I think your dad's probably right.  See a neurologist too to rule out and any problems.
You both should go to the anxiety and/or depression forums and check out the posts there.
You may be suprised to see many people there going thru what you are.
I suffer from anxiety and depression as well as neurological problems. Well, keep in mind that anxiety and depression ARE neurological problems and just as serious.
I'd recommend you both see a psychiatrist.  They are trained neurologists as well and best qualified to help you detemine where you problems lie and put you the road to recovery.
Good luck

I am also experiencing some of the same symptoms. It's on my left side too! I had twitching in my left eye before, but now i get "floaties" in it, which make it hard to focus on things. Only my left nostril runs at these times too. I get pressure in my left temple and a feeling of disorientation at times. I believe it is our nervous system acting up too. I went to the emergency recently, thinking I was gonna have a stroke, heart attack, or aneurysm, etc. The doctor was amazing and made me feel relieved. He said "You felt like you were dying, right?" And I replied "Yes, absolutely!" I explained to him that I was also receiving burning sensations on the top left of my head, and at the left back of my head. But I have also been under alot of stress, because I have just started a new career back in my hometown, and had to leave my 7 year old behind to finish school first. I feel the pressure to succeed right now, and it's causing alot of strange feelings in my body, particularly my left side. At this point, though, I am monitoring it. I am also extrememly fatigued most times, and struggle to get out of bed, which leaves me rushing to get ready for work. I also sometimes experience electric zingers quickly zip through my head, and a quick burning sensation in my nose. Almost like the smell of burnt toast right at my nose. So, this scares me, and I think I am going to have a seizure. Only because I watched a Canadian Heritage commercial on a historic moment in history when doctors were able to find the place in a person's brain, where the seizure begins, and what symptoms are experienced by the patient. I also get strange sensations in my mouth too. My father has dealt with alot of the same symptoms thoughout his life, and has assured me that it's all anxiety. He now has constant pins and needles in his left arm. He's had an MRI in the past, which came up clear. I'm hoping that what we both are experiencing is stress and anxiety.
