what muscles/nerves connect the hand to the brain?

Say someone drove an...8" nail through the palm of my hand (Jesus style). Now imagine somehow I could withstand the pain and puled it out. I'd have a hole in my hand right?
Would I still be able to move my fingers? Or would the nerves that connect my fingers to my brain be dead/damaged/broken? Im just curious to know how the hands (and fingers) get the order from the brain to move.

I mean, I once had a concussion and lost dexterity of my hand. I could still move my arm and wrist, but I had no control of my fingers, so If somehow, someone drove a nail through my hand, would I also lose finger dexterity? (i think the medical term is "fine motor skills")
Thanks :D

I just wanted to kind of have an idea of what could happen if this were to happen to me. I am considering doing it as punishment for my sins, but on the other hand I dont want to not be able to move my fingers at all cuz I play the piano, and well, i cant play it with only one hand! lol
thnx again

Hi there.

In a province in the Philippines called Pampanga province, they re-enact during the holy week the crucifixion of Jesus Christ with real cross, driving real nails in their palms.  The crucifixion is carried out by professionals who know where to drive the nail.  The nail usually does not hit any major tendons and nerves, but still injures some muscles.  The nerves that control the muscles, that in turn controls finger movements are located in the forearm and not  in the palm area.  So as long as the tendons of the muscles are not severed, finger movement may be preserved.  Your concussion may have caused some damage in your cerebellum.  This is the part of the brain that is responsible for coordination and fine muscle control.

Regards.
