Green Soy Shakes - stomach problems

I'm hoping you can pinpoint why this is happening.  About a month ago, I started having these shakes (from powder - adding almond milk, banana & a tsp of peanut butter) as a way to get vitamins/supplements from a liquid form ... instead of a chalky pill (which I've heard is harder on your liver.)

They've ended up being a meal replacement because - 1., they're better than I expected, 2. they're pretty substantial, 3.  I need to lose weight anyway so what the heck.

It's gotten a bit better since time I've been taking this daily, but I still get a bout of diarrhea once a day - probably 1-3 hours after drinking the shake.  (In the beginning my stomach would rumble pretty much immediately - it's calmed down a bit since then.)

I'm still drinking the shake because, well, other than the bout of the bathroom, these make me feel pretty darned good.

The GNC guy said it's perhaps it's getting rid of excess toxcity in my body ... seems kinda nutritional mumbo jumbo, but I really don't have any other answers since I'm not lactose intolerance, I'm using almond milk and this is a soy product.

In fact, here's a link to the product label with all of the ingredients:  http://www.vitacost.com/Natures-Way-Alive-Ultra-Shake-Soy-Protein-Vanilla-2-45-lb

I generally don't have food allergies.  Overall, I'm pretty healthy.  Besides the shake, I also take St. John's Wort, Osteo Bi-Flex and MSM .... no prescription drugs.  I don't necessarily have a sensitive stomach.

So ... what gives?  Any ideas?

I doubt it's the almond milk but rather the soy product u are taking with the almond milk.   Try a non soy product :)

Thanks for the response!

Between my original post and your response I switched brands of almond milk (from Silk to Blue Diamond) simply because they were out of the one I usually purchased.

And voila!  No more stomach/diarrhea issues.  The ingredients of both are almost identical though - so perhaps it will remain a mystery.

Whatever is in the shake mixture, it seems to be causing you digestive stress (diarrhea). Having diarrhea daily will cause loss of vitamins, minerals and nutrients including fluid loss which is not good for your body or health. Suggest you avoid consuming the shakes and getting checked by your MD to ensure you are not deficient of vitamins/minerals. Some people may become allergic to certain foods later in life so you may want to be tested. Thank you for your question.
