If you go to a health food store or natural foods supermarket, they have inexpensive tofu seasoning mix packets that you can use to make stir fries and other easy tofu dishes. I'm not a great cook, but these are really easy to make with just a few ingredients and not much time. They're usually pretty good too. I have found that the tofu that you buy that sits in a tub of water is usually easier to use with stir fry dishes because it cooks better all the way through. For other things like smoothies and tofu burgers, the tofu that comes in a cardboard package is fine. They also have Tofu burger mix which is pretty good.
i slice it thin and use a teeny bit of olive or sesame oil in a wok. i sprinkle it w/ sesame seeds. and i cook it slow and longer, til its brown. i like it crispy this way. i serve it as a side dish topped w/ a ginger teriyaki sauce and steamed veggies. also try boca or morningstar products. yum!
One of the easiest ways to cook tofu and infuse it with flavor is to:
- Cut it into cubes
- Place them in a single layer in a wok.
- Poor enough soysauce in to come about half way up the tofu.
(at this point you may also like to add herbs, Rosemary, Thyme, etc)
- Cover and let cook until soy sauce is bubbling.
The tofu will begin to absorb the soy sauce and swell a bit. Turn them over at least once during this process. After turning them over once, you can add chopped veggies to the tofu can continue to cook with the lid still on. It's important to keep the lid. Otherwise it will dry up and scorch.
Cook until you are satisfied with the texture of the tofu and veggies. The time that you cook the food is not too important. These are veggies and tofu afterall. You can eat them raw... which may even be best as far as nutritional values are concerned.
I hope this helps.
