My son is extremely thin too and also has nerve (anxiety) issues. One thing we have learned through testing is that he is genetically low in Apolipoprotein-B (Apo-B) which causes poor nutrient absorption and low cholesterol. (High cholesterol is bad of course as we are constantly told, but low cholesterol, while not life threatening, can contribute to nerve and depression problems due to the fact that the myelin sheaths on your nerves and the seratonin in your brain is largely made up of cholesterol.)
We have taken the following measures and he has gained 3 pounds in 3 months, which is more than he has gained in the 2 years before that! His mental health and development has been remarkable as well! These recommendations were all made by our pediatric specialist and are completely natural and safe to try.
To improve nutrient absorption we added probiotics every day, and digestive enzyme supplement before each meal. Added a natural antifungal such as grapefruit seed extract to ensure there are not yeast or parasites compromising your intestinal tract. Also eating an egg every day. It will take approximately 3 months for the cholesterol to start building up, but your nerves will feel better before that. Omega 3 supplement with DHA is also very important.
All these things are completely natural and there is no risk to trying them! I can definitely say that it has helped, no, transformed my son, he is healthier and happier than he has ever been in his life right now!
Lastly, my son is allergic to dairy, so another thing that might be worth trying is giving up all dairy for a month or so to see if it helps you... adding a calcium supplement of course!
Hope this helps you as much as it has helped us! I feel as though we owe our doctor our lives for the difference it has made for my son.
The amount of calories per day ranges from 2000-2200 for your age. Dairy product substitutes are low fat soymilk, rice milk, almond milk, low fat soy cheese, soy yogurt, and low fat soy ice cream. Best of luck to you.
ty for your comment, make ya feel better when you know your not the only one.i have bothered my doc many times on this subject, like your doc ,mine says the same thing, the last time i brought it up she snapped at me and said im lucky and many women would love to have my fast metabolism! but i dont feel lucky.its no different then a person who is overweight trying to loose it,we are just on the other end of the scale.i too am very busy with work and home stuff,i try to keep almonds in my pocket at all times to have an easy snack while working and ive been munching on those constantly lately.
thank you for your reply! how many calories a day would you suggest, just so i have an idea and try to aim for that number daily.also is there an alternative to the dairy in the shakes? i cant have too much dairy,it seems to make my face break out in terrible bouts of acne.is almond milk ok you think?
Some people have a natural high metabolism which tends to cause them not to gain weight. If you do weight training you will gain weight because you are building lean body muscle which weights more. Suggest eating 3 meals a day constituency with drinking high nutrient drinks - Ensure, Boost or make milkshakes (milk, fruit, and ice cream blended) or yogurt smoothies (yogurt, fruit, and ice cream blended) 3 times a day to help you gain weight slowly. You have to constantly eat and drink the shakes daily to gain weight if you have a high metabolism. Hoped that helped you.
i am 30 , weigh less than you (and am 5.3) and and apparantly healthy according to my doc , who says i have fast metabolism!! i am constantly busy and i think it prevents me putting weight on ...i am still constantly trying to ain weight though, i have noticed i put weight on a bit more when i exercise as it makes me eat more and the new muscles weighs in! It would be good to see your doc to rule out causes for persistent underweightness. i can definatley sympathise with trying ot put on weight and failing though :)
