Ditto. Many articles written about the flat abs fantasy. One geneticist stated its all in the genes for having a six pack. The goal should really be to decrease belly fat. I work out a lot, but my body just will never have the Hollywood abs mythos and I am fine with that. You are right. Its not normal.
A flat stomach isn't actually normal. Often when you see one on TV it's the result of steroids or surgery. If you have too much fat there, on the other hand, it's the result usually of eating too many simple carbs (sugar, white flour) and not burning them off -- they will turn to fat and store first in the belly area.
If you have an almost flat stomach like me I recommend doing some abs :)
