What I gave you is only one component to cognitive behavioral therapy. You really do need the help of a psychologist but were you able to at least check the books out of the library or by them online?
Hi
I know it's only been a few weeks but the hocd seems to be getting worse. I was doing what you said
' As far as arguing with your thoughts...self-coaching can go a long way in helping you get over these thoughts but you have to use it in a way that you counter your thought. Use things like "WHATEVER" and "NO, ENOUGH, MOVE ON." Don't let that thought take on a life of its own. Don't argue with it. Nip it the second it comes into your mind.'
But it keeps coming back and making me unable to eat or to do anything .
The last hocd 'spike' I had was just before I got with my current girlfriend and the spikes stopped for about 4/5 months and I felt myself again like I used to before all this started 3 years ago, but know it is back.
I know I am not gay I have always know but I just can't get rid of the seed in my head, is there any help for me or is my mind always going to be like this I just want to be like I was a few weeks ago and 3 years ago please help
Here are a couple of book suggestions if a psychologist isn't in the cards for you:
The OCD Workbook: Your Guide to Breaking Free of OCD
Brain Lock
Self-Coaching by Joseph Luciani
Thank you for replying, I will try everything that you have mentioned and get back to you in a few months to let you know how I am getting on
Hi there. Well I think 3 years is 3 years too long to be suffering from this. Have you ever sought the help of a psychologist to learn cognitive behavioral therapy?
Watching porn is a no-no because it is considered "testing" and testing is bad when you have OCD. The problem is you are going to second guess everything...did I get an erection, was it a little one, a big one, was there no erection but I felt some sensation. The list can go on and on and all it does is keep you in the OCD loop. As far as arguing with your thoughts...self-coaching can go a long way in helping you get over these thoughts but you have to use it in a way that you counter your thought. Use things like "WHATEVER" and "NO, ENOUGH, MOVE ON." Don't let that thought take on a life of its own. Don't argue with it. Nip it the second it comes into your mind.
