Please some help on intrusive thoughts...???

I’m after advice as to whether the following are intrusive thoughts or not? I’m really worried it could be potentially Schizerphrenia…
Recently I have brief thoughts of food popping into my head, such as ‘bread’ ‘pizza’ etc, and for a brief instant it’s almost as if I can taste/smell the food but I don’t think I can. It’s not a craving thought because im hungry or anything, it makes me extremely anxious, it seems to happen when im stressed or concentrating on something else. Also I have had random memories popping into my head, just totally random, not good, not bad, but they are causing me some distress also. They are almost the same.
Would these be classes as intrusive thoughts??? Or some sort of hallucination? I’m really freaking out  any advice would be great. Please.

Well intrusive thoughts might just be a way for your mind to calm itself down. Maybe a mechanism to cope with stress? It could be a variety of things. If these intrusive thoughts are not bad thoughts just very random then it shouldn't be something to worry about. Intrusive thoughts are thoughts you specifically don't want in your head like horrific scenes or unwanted sexual themes or disturbing images. If the subject of the thought itself is not causing you to become anxious there is no need for worry. And no, it cannot be schizophrenia. There are DISTINCT criteria you have to meet in order to have that very rare disorder, and it only effects <1% of the population. Look it up in the DSM-IV, typically people who are schizophrenic are not aware of it also.

Maybe it would be a good idea to visit a therapist? Talk therapy is very effective in getting to the root of these weird thoughts. Again, its nothing to get stressed out about.
