Blood test before Orthoscopic knee surgery

What do they test for when testing a patient's blood before surgery. More to the point, do they test for Hep A?

Detection of IgM antibody to HAV in the patient's serum; this antibody appears early in the illness, and persists for a limited time, usually for 3 to 4 months after onset; IgG antibody indicates past infection and immunity.

Thank you for your swift reply. I was interested because I was very sick for two months and by the time anyone thought of Hep A, it was too late for the antibodies to show up. It was possitive for Hep A, but I was told that could have been years ago. All I know is that I have never been that sick before, my liver enzymes were in the 120's, eyes hurt in the sun, liver and spleen enlarged, diarea and abdominal pain but no exact diagnosis. Since I had surgery in March, I was wondering if I get those record, they would show yes or no to Hep A.

Dear  forys,

For orthoscopic knee surgery the surgeon would be concerned on your basic vitals like bleeding time, clotting time, haemoglobin,  blood sugar & may be some highly infective diseases like HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis B. (If he doubts anything in particular he may add something)

Full blood picture is not required as you would not have any major bleeding or surgical sutures or surgical incision.

Take care!
