Do I need surgery on my fibula?

I’m 35, 185 lbs, 6 foot, healthy and active. I have Kaiser, so their ER put a soft cast/splint on currently. These are their notes on the x-ray: There is a fracture at the distal right fibula extending superiorly from the level of the ankle mortise. There is lateral displacement of the distal fracture fragment measuring 6 mm. There are no other acute bony abnormalities. There is mild hallux valgus alignment. There is soft tissue swelling throughout the ankle.
Would you recommend surgery or not?
Thanks!

Hello and welcome to the forum. We're hoping you visited an orthopedic surgeon after your ER visit and casting. Whether to have surgery or not is based on the severity of the fracture. That's challenging to determine from this wording. Can you follow up with us?

I severely broke my tibia and fractured into three pieces my fibula. I had the tibia stabilized with a rod and 5 screws, and the fibula was allowed to heal on its own.
Hey Rebecca900----  that's helpful. Thank you
About how long did it take, Rebecca?
Two months for me to put full weight on it.
