Dr. Kaul

Thank you for your response. However, she has not injury. She's a ballet, jazz, tap dancer & her instructor told her she has hyperextension legs. So, we were wondering what she meant by that statement, because our family thought that's what it meant is a injury. Maybe she used the wrong words.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi there!

Hyperextension refers to a state of over-movement of the legs towards the front towards the knee cap (over-unfolding on the knee joint). This may not necessarily be caused by an injury and aside non-traumatic fractures/ dislocations, could also result from connective tissue disorders, bone abnormalities etc. I would suggest considering an evaluation by an orthopedician or a sports medicine specialist for a detailed evaluation and suggestion of an appropriate management plan.
Hope this is helpful.

Take care!
