Extreme knee pain with any minor movements

My girlfriend has a problem with her knee, sometimes it used to "go out of place" and then the kicking reflex would happen "clicking" it back into place while causing her a lot of pain. But this last time it did not click back. This resulted in her experiencing extreme pain with any, even most tiny movements of her knee. We called an ambulance, after explaining what's happening they told us to wait half an hour as it was not acute in their opinion (this is Denmark), my girlfriend ended up sitting in a chair with tense leg muscles (as soon as she relaxed them she felt crazy amounts of pain) for an hour, and then we were taken to the hospital. In the hospital doctors couldn't identify the problem, the told us my girldfriend needs a MR scan of her knee to determine a problem, which will be available only in 2 weeks, and they sent us home. Apparently they did not realise the degree of pain my girlfriend was in, she describes it as a drill going into her leg disrupting all the thoughts, with any even most minor movements of her knee. We insisted on them doing something immediately, and they performed some kind of physical procedure (while she was on strong painkillers) with her leg that "clicked" the thing back a little bit but not completely, the upside was that now it was impossible for my girlfriend to mess up something in her knee with movement despite the extreme pain (they said so but my girlfriend is afraid they may be wrong, it's hard to trust those people). Morphine or whatever painkillers they gave us sure helped, she could move while on that stuff. We're trying to get more of that from her doctor, will call about it tomorrow. This morning my girlfriend was in a lot of pain and despair, we considered moving her back into the hospital for 2 weeks before the surgery, but somehow it subsided and she was able to even move a bit and use a toilet by herself, even shower a bit. It was quite a scary and traumatic experience for her when whilst she's being in a lot of pain the last people she can hope to help her (the doctors) ignore her and send her home without doing anything really... Now in the evening we are talking about all that happened and she fears about her leg, if she'll be able to walk, if they will issue surgery immediately or tell her to wait 2 more weeks, and if they know what they're doing because seriously those people seem like some random strangers with no medical knowledge the way they treated her. Of course I'm thankful they at least did that little physical thing and also gave her a fixating cloth thing on her leg as well as a pair of crutches... But the situations feels really unacceptable, the pain is really severe and occurs with very mild movements... My girlfriend says it's 10 out of 10 and she couldn't possibly feel more pain than she feels when it "shoots". I would like to hear some input from the people who have medical knowledge about the situation and the nature of this problem. Thanks in advance.
