Yes, the disability (immobility) due to joint fusion/ arthrodesis is permanent, while the other complications mentioned are fairly treatable.

Well, wrist fusion or arthrodesis aims at limiting the movement at the diseased joint(s). One may not be able to move the wrist as freely as normal individuals, depending on the exact pathology and procedure, but this is the requirement for preventing further degeneration and pain in a majority of cases. Rarer complications include extensor tenosynovitis, intrinsic contracture, carpal tunnel syndrome, non-union, joint instability/ abutment etc. However if all three orthopedicians believe the procedure to be useful in your case, I would suggest to go ahead with it.
