My knee is hurting and I don't know why

Hi there, I have been having pain in my right knee for about a couple of months now. It seemed to start after I played one of my last hockey games and I noticed a little pain on the side closest to my crotch area. I know that isn't a technical term but I didn't know how else to explain it. Anyways it seems to hurt after I have been sitting and then I get up or after I sleep and get up. It hurts on the left side of my right knee. I have also noticed from time to time that I can feel sounds when I flex my knee.

Can anyone give me some insight on what might be the problem. I am a 34 year old male who plays hockey and golf although I am about 35-40lbs over my ideal weight.

Thanks for getting back to me. It feels tender on the left side of my right knee when I push on it. Also if I pull my knee up to my chest if I feel pain in my groin on my right side almost like a a burning feeling.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Whenever you exert yourself it hurts that means you pulled a ligament/muscle .
You have to visit an orthopaedican to zero down on the exact muscle which runs on the inner side of your thigh with insertion in the pelvis bone and other side on the lower part of the femur. you have to wear a strap if required and rest this area and take some anti inflammatory drugs.
Take care!
