This is probably attributed to your posture. Make sure you sit up straight or get a back pillow to put in your desk chair. Do not cross your legs. Try light hamstring stretches and icing your back for pain. The sharp pains and numbness is probably your sciatic nerve (the largest nerve in the body that runs from your lower back down the back of your leg) and it is probably irritated from tight muscles and poor posture. Don't worry the majority of the population has poor posture! When you sit up role your shoulders back and try to squeeze your shoulder blades together and hold it for 30 seconds. Do this as often as you think of it throughout the day. This will strengthen those mid-back muscles. Good luck!

It may be too late, and permanent changes have occurred, that might require intervention. (specific stretching, exercise, non-surgical treatment, surgery, etc)
That damage could be in the form of a degenerated disk or other disk issue.

However, before you start worrying about that, start with regular fixes.
No one should sit more than 1 hour at a time, without getting up and walking for at least 5-10 minutes. (causes back problems)
2nd: Very few people recognize how important ergonomics are to your long term health. (back, legs, weight, eyes, cardiac, etc)
Make sure you sit in an ergonomically healthy chair, make sure it is at the proper height.
Make sure your computer screen is at a proper height and distance. Make sure you sit in proper form and refrain from twisting and a lot of reaching.
3: Do stretches, even at your desk.
4: Exercise in general, and lose weight if you are over weight.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello!

You should measure your height and weight and compute your BMI and always maintain it below 25.

You should avoid tight fitting clothes and improper footwear.

Wear ergonomically friendly shoes, comfortable loose shirts and trousers and sit on comfortable chairs with your feet firmly grounded and your hands properly supported. After every couple of hours move around your office to fetch some water etc. Move around when you are talking on phone.

You should follow office ergonomics properly and if required contact an occupational health expert and take suggestions and adopt these life style changes.

If pain and symptoms continue then follow up with an orthopedician for some scans and a proper examination.

Take care!
