I'd be happy for any response or advice anyone has as my left shoulder has always been an anomaly to me. I dislocated it initially about ten years ago and had rotator cuff surgery a few years later. I've been on and off taking the rehab seriously ever since the first dislocation and it would pop out a few times a year, I'd need a few days to recover, and that was that. However I haven't had a dislocation in almost three years.
Around a year and a half ago this random pain I had never had before crippled me and I was essentially debilitated for about two weeks. It has never been that bad consistently since that happened, though it gives me various levels of discomfort/pain every day. I had an MRI done but apparently nothing showed up so I still have no idea happened. I spoke to a doctor of a friend of mine (not ortho) who said it sounded like nerve damage from my description. It came out of no where though since it was the longest I had gone without dislocating it, and all pain I had ever felt before was a direct result of a dislocation. Another doctor mentioned I see a physiologist. Would this be a good idea?
When I try to rehab hard it can result in tremendous pain, when I do nothing it can be even worse. It's difficult to find a middle ground and I still have no idea what changed a year and a half ago. I would put my dislocation at over 20 times, which is a lot, so we obviously have some problems here. I've never had any neck pain and though I used to have some numbness in my fingers, the pain has been limited to the shoulder itself the last year or so.
Anyway, I plan to see a specialist but I'm moving to Korea in about a month and I don't trust the doctors there. What kind of specialist should I see? Does this sound like nerve or tissue damage or anything anyone here has experienced or may know about? As a disclaimer, I never take pain medications, ever. I'm only 27 so whatever problems I've had to this point will only likely get worse until I figure out what is wrong and how to fix it. Any insight or advice? Physiologist, Orthopedist, physical therapist? I appreciate any feedback in advance and apologize for the long-winded post.
