i broke my scaphoid bone 10 weeks ago, i am now in a splint, but still in a lot of pain, in fact having to take painkillers more now than what i was when i was in a plaster cast.i am waiting for an mri scan, but i have noticed that my hand and near my thumb keeps swelling up and i keep getting a burning sensation please help.
I too am faced with inevitable four corner fusion or proximal row carpectomy. I broke my schaphoid 40 years ago and never knew it. it's been painful for 30 years, and now necrotic and collapsed it is time.
I'm very glad to see this string as I have searched the internet for years for information and support with this problem. I am an avid surfer, gardner, and guitar player and treasure the use of my hands.
I want to talk to others who have been through this and can provide support and advice on procedures, doctors, etc. (I had my hip replace 2 years ago and there were numeroous web-based bulletin boards with tons of information and support.) I have not found that for SNAC wrist problems.
Any suggestions? If there is no group we should create one....there are others out there who need it too.
Thank you, Will i have a full range of motion in my wrist? and what part of the bone is the hardest to heal? In a month i get my surgery so i will definitly keep you posted.
hi dom,
scaphoid is prone for non-union due to poor vascularity. The failed operation is a proof for it. It's a good thing that your surgeon has advised you for bone grafting. this increases the chances of healing. If it heals, you will definitely et pain relief. However, we will have to wait to see the results.
All the best and keep us posted about the improvement.
