Schmori node?

I just had a mri done and it showed "at the C5-6 level, minimal diffuse disc bulge ,at C4-5 ther is a right parasagittal disc protusion and osteophytosis noted. There is inferior endplate deformity of the C4 vertebral body likely representing a Schmoil's node. What does that acually mean? Thank you if you can help shrd some light on this for me. Sincerely Sharon

Hi, “These are protrusions of disc material into the surface of the vertebral body, which may contact the marrow of the vertebra and lead to inflammation. The protrusions are also associated with necrosis of the vertebral bone and the question of whether these protrusions and inflammation cause the necrosis, or whether the cartilage migrates into areas that have become necrotic due to other conditions, is under investigation.
They may or may not be symptomatic, and their etiological significance for back pain is controversial”.

It seems you are having multiple disc bulges compressing the nerves and giving rise to symptoms. “Often people who experience a herniated disc already have spinal stenosis, a problem that causes narrowing of the space around the spinal cord and spinal nerves. When a herniated disc occurs, the space for the nerves is further diminished, and irritation of the nerve results”. Taken from

Treatment involves physiotherapy, pain killers, hot compression and surgery like microdiscetomy
