joint pain

Hi there :) have flare-up of osteoarthritis in knee after being diagnosed formally when I had an arthroscopy a few months ago. Just wondered how long pain and subsequently being out of action may last for? Any thoughts or ideas would be helpful. Thank you so much.

Thank you again for your reply. I have no fever but knee is fairly red and mottled looking and warm at times which I have just put  down to bad circulation as most times the knee is real cold. I have made an appointment with my GP again after your reply on Friday  with the hope of being referred to a Rheumatologist. I hope to get some further advice from him then, thank you again for your time and answers.

Well, your GP is just that, a GP. He (she) is giving generalized advice based on lack of more detailed knowledge in the field. A Rheumatologist would give you more specific and accurate advice.
Do you have a fever with this swelling? Or redness and/or warmth at the location of the swelling?

Hopefully there are others on here that can give you more/better advice, but a Rheumatologist is the only one who can really give you accurate advice.

Thank you for your kind reply and time. Sorry I should have put a little more detail-I am on Etoricixib 60mg but 10 days ago have been put up to 90mg as found it difficult to walk up the stairs without feeling like I was being hit in the knee. I am 47 years old and have a previous medical history of angiomas in the brain-one removed and one recently diagnosed in the spine with hypersensitivity. I have been told by my GP just to rest for a wk or two until the swelling goes down but it is still there as is the pain on the stairs. I have pain in the shoulder and lower back. I am trying to exercise as much as the pain allows but my walking is greatly affected at the moment. I hate being like this, both my mam and grandmother had osteo and rhumatoidarthritis.
Any advice would be received with thanks, I hope you are well and have found a way to manage the condition. Many thanks for your initial reply again

You don't mention your age, or treatment, and what you mean by "out of action." There are also many other factors, such as weight, over all health, activities, diet, etc....

Arthritis is a degenerative condition, and pain is usually long term requiring lifestyle adjustments or management.
The use of the joint can be improved by strengthening surrounding muscle tissue and things like good quality shoes, etc.
