Hello!

If this is a home grown vaccinated cat then there is no reason to worry!

The depth of your cut is important, get yourself vaccinated against tetanus and proceed for surgery. If there is any infection at the site then you would need antibiotics.

If this is a deep scratch and the cat is not vaccinated then you have to defer your surgery and take all the doses of rabies vaccination. Discuss with your surgeon

Take care!

It may - depending on how severe the scratch is and where it is located in regards to where the surgical incision will be. Any time there is a break in the skin, there is a possiblity of an infection setting in and one of the worst ones is MRSA infection, which actually can be pretty prevalent in a hospital setting.

I know it's Sunday today, but I would suggest calling the hospital where you are to be having your surgery and tell them about the scratch and see what they say.  They may want to contact your surgeon and get his/her opinion on whether to go ahead with the surgery or perhaps postponing it for a while until they are sure the scratch has healed.  They may even want you to take some antibiotics for a while before doing surgery to cut down on the possibility of contracting a bad infection.

If you can't reach anyone at teh hospital that can help you, definitely be sure to not only tell the doctors and nurses about the scratch tomorrow when you go in, but also be sure to show them the scratch also, so they can see not only it's location, but also what it looks like (severity, etc)

Meanwhile, be sure to keep the scratched area clean and dry and perhaps put a bit of antibiotic ointment on it - it certainly wouldn't hurt to do so.

Best of luck and let us know what they say and if you have it, how yoru surgery goes.
