I posted a message on here with my problem which is severe pain in my low back and hips when I stand for any length of time and walking is unbearable. I do have inflammatory rheumatoid arthritis and I was born with spina bifida. I have managed quite well until I started nursing and now I am disabled because of my joint problems and severe pain. I am on morphine 60 mg. every 12 hours and statex 5mg - 1 to 2 tabs prn. I'm so tired of taking narcotics but I feel if I didn't take them I wouldn't be able to function at all. I am booked for xrays and ultrasound next week and my family doctor thinks I might need to have cortisone shots in my hips. My pain has never been quite this bad and I'm very concerned. Would you have any idea why my pain has gotten so severe? I would appreciate your response and thanking you in advance. Willieonlyone
Hi!
I am sorry to hear about your medical problems. The pain could either be due to infection caused by the cortisone shot procedure or due to the fact that you are putting pressure on the knee where there is incomplete healing of the medial meniscus tear.
Usually oblique and horizontal tears of the medial meniscus involve the white portion of the medial meniscus and are not fully repairable. The tear in the red zone of medial meniscus will heal with rest, elevation, ice and compression, followed by physiotherapy. However, usually since big tears do not repair fully, partial or complete removal of meniscus (meniscectomy) is performed.
Please show this to your specialist immediately. Do not bear weight on the affected leg until you have seen the specialist. Take care!
