Trouble sleeping after ovarian cyst removal?

Last week, I had some sharp pains in my lower abdomen, which was followed by some debilitating pains every once in a while. When it got really bad, I went to the ER. After an ultrasound, they found an ovarian cyst of 6 cm as well as some swelling. It was laparoscopically removed that very night, and I was lucky enough that I felt little to no pain in my stomach since.

The thing is, I've been pretty emotional, and the worst part has been my trouble sleeping. The first night, I woke up starving at 4AM and ate a bit of bread. I ended up vomiting, but I was told that's normal for the first few hours. Fine. But since then, I REALLY haven't been able to sleep. I've stayed up until 4 AM, tossed and turned all night, woken up several times, I know it's only been a week but I can barely remember what it feels like to get a good nights rest.

I've tried excercising (originally I thought it might have been that I didn't work my body enough to be tired), relaxation excercises, I've even started taking sleeping pills-which sort of helped the first night, but I still woke up a few times. I tried a triple dose last night and still couldn't fall asleep- I Woke up at 2 AM and then tried for another 5 hours to fall asleep and couldn't.

I've read online that some people have had similar experiences, but it doesn't seem all that common to experience insomnia like this after surgery, so I wanted to see if it was maybe something else. I normally wouldn't post on one of these sites, but it seems like my only option at this point. I'm eighteen, and the only one of my friends to get this procedure. I started birth control pills after the surgery (as recommended by my gyn) so I was thinking that might also be related.

So long story short, I'm just wondering if anyone has had something similar? I'm absolutely exhausted right now, but I still can't fall asleep, which is why I'm writing. I think I can bear it for a little while longer, but I just want to know when this will all stop and I'll be back to my normal, knocked out at 10 PM, deep sleeping self. Does anyone have anything similar? Is this common? Any suggestions? Thanks so much!!:)

I'm sorry for your troubles. You're still early post-op. The anesthesia and other drugs may be the cause of your insomnia. But it could also be that your ovary isn't working quite right and you haven't been on the BC pills long enough to "override" your ovarian hormones. Hopefully, this will all settle down soon.
