Fybroids and Cysts

I'm a 43 year old female (never preganant) who recently had a pelvic ultrasound due to heavy mentural bleeding and and cramps.  The report stated the following findings:
Uterus is enlarged, measuring 11.1 x 6.3 x 5.8 cm.  There is a mass along the posterior uterine body measuring 3.8 x 3.7 x 3.1 cm and another mass anteriorly on the left measuring 1.4 x 1.5 x 1.4 cm. There is some fluid seen within the endocervical canal.  My ovaries are normal in size but there are simple bilatral ovarian cysts measuring 1.7 x 1.7 x 1.4 cm and 0.8 x 1.1 x 0.8 cm with additional follicles noted within the left ovary.  No free intrapelvic fluid noted.

I would like to know my treatment options.

I am 43 yrs old. I have had cysts on both ovaries, fibroids, endometriosis, and an enlarged uterus. I recently had a D&C and a thermal ablation. They also did exploratory laproscopic...whatever it's called and an endometrium biopsy. I'm still waiting for the results to come back, but dr. says everything looked fine. She said if pain and heavy bleeding persisted after about 3 months, we may need to do more (I assume hysterectomy). My fibroid, according to dr., is not causing any problems. The cysts were simple and resolved. The waiting on treatment and deciding what treatment is the worst. Good luck with everything and keep us posted.
I don't have answers, but I hope that sharing our stories helps you some.

Hi, I am 44 (almost 45) I also have an enlarged uterus with a large fibroid.  I also had some ovarian cysts.  back in June I had a 6cm complex cyst on the left, and several simple cysts on the right.  they have since resolved.  I just came from 2nd op gyn, and he did an tv/us in his office, along with endometrium biopsy.  Am scheduled for a partial hysterectomy on sept 22.  the fibroid is causing a lot of constant back pain, heavy periods with clots, and pelvic pain, so that seems the best option for now.  when results from biopsy come back, the plan may change.  what did your dr give you for options?  good luck.
p.s  I've had that fibroid for at least 5 years, along with cysts.

I agree, this sounds like you wanted to post on the doctor forum.  Having said that, what did your own doctor say after you had the ultrasound.  The larger mass should definitely be looked at, I would think.  The smaller cysts are probably functional cysts.  Without any other information, such as your age, pregnancies, etc. it is hard to comment. I have an enlarged uterus (even larger than yours) but my doctor said that was pretty normal considering I had five pregnancies. So, I would definitely follow up with your doctor to see what he plans on doing. Good luck!

Hi,
I think you may have meant to post on the "Expert Forum".. Just go down on the right and scroll down to "Expert forums"

There may be some ladies with experience just like yours, but have a feeling you're looking for some professional advice.

If I had to go out on a limb (I'm not a Dr.) , I would imagine they may want to schedule you for a laparotomy or laparoscopy to get a better look .. Cysts, are very very common in younger women, but you do have some other issues.

Good luck,
Sandy
