Can fibroid push on rectum?

Hi,

Going in for laprascopy on Tuesday for removal of endo and cyst on left ovary and biopsies and also having another surgeon present as a recent colonoscopy showed a mass pressing on the wall of my rectum (but mass is not in the rectum).  I had a rare tumour in the right anterior abdominal wall 10 years ago and hope it's not come back.  Three in a million people get them, lucky me!

Anyhow my ultrasound showed I also have a fibroid at the top of the fundus of the uterus and I wonder does anyone know if this fibroid would present as a mass pressing on the wall of my rectum?  I know I'll know everything once the surgery is done but I'm anxious and wondering as I'm sure you all relate to.  The mass is soft and moveable.  Does this sound like a fibroid??

Thanks.

I have had problems for the past 2 years.  I have  chronic constipation and abdominal bloating.  It's gets worse after each meal  My abdomen gets large and tight.  It feels like a heaviness and fullness, I pass minimal gas.   I also have painfull intercourse at times and have been getting up during the night to urinate (this just recently statarted).  I had a uterine artery embolization 1yr ago.  My mestral cylcle was quite heavy and in now very lite.

I have been seeing a Gastroenterologist for the past year and have had several tests and exams.  So far he has not been able to discover the source of my problem.  I have also been on many differenrt medications from antibiotics to ones that make food pass through the GI tract faster and several ones for constipation.  So far nothing is working.

I do remember at my last GYN exam I was told that I have a lage fibroid pressing on my rectum.  After doing online research I now think that my constipation and abdominal bloating may be due to my fibroids.  I did a digital rectal exam on myself and felt the fibroid.

Could this be the source of my problems?  I have been suffering for 2 years and is has gotten much worse over time.

Thanks, Sandy,

The doctors aren't sure and are waiting to see once they're in there what the go is.  I am also to have a  CT scan Monday to help them diagnose it a bit more.

Thanks for the well wishes.  I'll let you know how I go for sure.

Hi,
Since I'm not a Dr., I can only guess that it's more than likely..Have you discussed this with your Dr.? I do know that fibroids can become very, very large.
Good luck Tuesday and keep in touch with us after your procedure.

Take care,
Sandy
