High C125 levels

I'm 36 yrs old. I have a 10cm cyst on my right ovary. I just had it looked at by an oncologist. He said it is unlikely to be cancerous but perhaps borderline. My C125 levels are at 279. Is it possible to have such a high number without it being ovarian cancer. I know other factors elevate it, but to that high of a level?? I'm getting an MRI next week and eventually surgery but until then im searching for some hope?

So glad to hear that you escaped the all too common unnecessary removal of female organ(s) (in your case an ovary). It is truly appalling how the medical community treats women's organs as if they are disposable. There is NEVER a point in our lives when we do not need our sex organs. They have functions FAR beyond reproduction.

I hope the birth control pills do the trick! I am curious if you have had chronic pelvic pain over the years that is common with endometrisois.

Update: I have endometriosis. That was causing my C125 levels to be high. (300 on my last test) I had surgery to remove the large cyst on my ovary and now I have to take birth control to keep them from coming back, although there's already a few small ones in there now.
I would recommend telling your doctor you want to preserve your fertility because they were originally going to take the ovary out.

Thank you for sharing your story. It does give me something to hope for.
I would like to keep as many organs as possible but in my state of mind, if they detect any cancer I want it all out.

If you do not have a predisposition for ovarian cancer than your lifetime risk of getting OC is less than 2%. I had a 9.5cm suspicious looking ovarian cyst that was benign. My CA125 was not elevated. However, I have a friend that had the same type of benign cyst as me and her CA125 was over 1000. The CA125 is more useful in assessing efficacy of ovarian cancer treatment than it is in diagnosing OC.

Unfortunately, my surgeon removed all my sex organs even though the frozen section done while I was under anesthesia showed that the cyst was benign. I wish I had understood more about the overuse of female organ removal. I would have done things very differently.
