I Look Pregnant!

I have a large ovarian cyst and now I'm getting fibroids.  I am taking a strong B.C. pill to shrink the cysts, and I don't really want to have surgery. I have put on 10 pounds and I look about 5 months pregnant.  I'm trying to work out more and watch what I eat, but nothing seems to work.  Has anyone had this problem, and has anything worked for you?

The BC pills make you eat more, and the pregnant looking belly is something that the cyst causes. I hated the thought of surgery also, and eventually had to have it.
Hang in there, and keep us posted!

Yeah thats how I looked too. I tried to lose weight and it made me look even bigger, thats why I went to the doctor and they found it. I had to have a laparotomy because it was so big (volleyball size) it was behind my belly button so they could not go in through there. I was scared to but the surgery was not as bad as I thought it would be and it will make you feel tons better. Good luck!

I had a laproscopy... if my insides hadn't cooperated they were going to move to a laparotomy (she told me after surgery that she was going to try one more time to hook the ovary and if she couldn't she was going to open all the way. I was about 30 seconds from a laparotomy. :)
But my cyst was only about 4.5cm.... guess it was just awkward.

I have a large ovarian cyst right now. I am having it removed August 29th. I look 5 months pregnant also. It just comes with the cyst. It's common. I did not want to have surgery either but it is so big so I will have to. After your ultrasound be sure to ask your dr. how big the cyst is and what your options are.

Hello everyone, I am new here, been doing a little research on overian problems. I have been having a lot of pain on my lower right region where my right ovarie is located, and also been having pain in the right quadrant of my abdomen. I went to my OB-Gyn and she did a pelvic exam and felt a mass on my right ovarie. I was sent for a sonogram and was told that I had a Bi-lobe that was solid in the center on top of my ovarie. I am having surgery in two days to have the mass removed...I told my Ob-gyn about the pain in my upper right quadrant and how it hurts from about where my galbladder is and continues around to my right kidney...she sent me for a sonogram to ensure that I don't have kidney stones...just got the phone call that everything looked normal on the sonogram. I do not know if the pain is a result of the growth on my ovarie, but it is hurting so much that It interferes with my sleep. I have also gained a lot of weight and it looks like I am pregnant...I have even had people ask me when my baby was due!!! I am a very active person, I'm ex army, I have a tredmill I am doing the ten thousand steps a day think Oprah does and I still can't lose weight. I am a little scared about the surgery...never had one before, just want to feel better!!!!

Hello every one and I feel your pain.  I look about 4-5 months pregnant also, but my Anechoic cyst is 3.9 X 4.7 cm in size, so mine is not at big as some of yours.  But I have really bad pain and I also have Endometriosis.  The doctor is giving me a really hard time.  He says his hands are tied when it comes to my case, he says I am too over weight, I smoke and I am almost 38 years old so I am too old for birth control pills so there is nothing he can do.  Does anyone know if this is true or not???? FOR A PEICE OF MIND, I NEED SOME ANSWERS, IF ANYONE KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT THIS OR WHAT I CAN DO, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE LET ME KNOW.  THANKS A MILLION:)

Hi greeneyes; if you are able to quit smoking, you can probably go on the pill.  I'm 45 and I'm on it for my big honking cyst.  It seems to have helped with another cyst, but I have a stubborn one that's 8 x 8 cms and is growing.  But the pill can also contribute to the growth of fibroids in the uterus, which can also add to the belly.  Sounds like you might need to switch doctors; I'm in the process now myself, thanks in part to the comments I've read here.  I won't be passive anymore; I'm arming myself with as much knowledge as I can, and getting second and third opinions.

keep trying!  You are not alone in your experience.

I understand how you feel....my ovarian cyst was 28 cm x 12 cm, the size of a basketball. I had surgery 2 weeks ago, and everyone has since told me that I gave birth to a 10 pound cyst. So I was practically pregnant too!!

Has anyone had a CA-125 Blood test done and what was the result... i have an ovarian cyst and i am very concerned about ovarian cancer can anyone help calm me?

If any of the above check back here please post results. I have similiar problems. I've had the CA-125, I've read it's not real accurate at detecting early signs. I had endometriosis extrememly bad so I had a hysterectomy when I was 39. I have part of one ovary left but have continous problems with cyst and have since I was a teenager. Will be going next month for another opinion that I've put off that's similiar to greeneys and msfab. I look about 5-7 mths pregnant, it scares me. It started about 2 years ago, the dr that helped me so much moved out of state so I chose another in the same practice and I wasn't happy so back to a previous gyno next month. I just hope and pray it's not oc. That has been my biggest fear.

Hey everyone. I fell all your pain. I too have had numerous problems with fibroids, and cysts I look like 6 months pregnant.  For the fibroids I had 2 one was the size of a grapefruit, I opted for the surgery to remove it because it was the best option for hubby and I in case we would want more children There are many other options available if you are not wanting any children including a non surgical procedure.  My stomach did go back to normal after the surgery but unfortunately I fell into the 5% of the women population that have fibroids return after 2 years of surgery. This time though there are 4 fibroids and numerous cysts so again I have to have them removed because of the heavy bleeding that has been going on for 4 months. According to the ob-gyn 2 are the size of baseballs and the other 2 are the size of a golf ball. The new ob-gyn is so much more helpful and here are the things I have been told. Eating green veggies such as green peppers, broccoli, beans, spinich, asparagus, meat such as chicken, turkey, shrimp, Orange Juice, Cantaloupe, strawberries, pumpkin help to reduce the pain, pressure and growth of fibroids and cysts along with daily exercise even walking for 10 minutes each day helps. Told to limit my intake of red meat and potatoes as these could increase the fibroids because of the proteins, and to limit intake of Wheat products because this will add to the bloated look. Wish you all the best of luck

Please do not ask a question on the bottom of another post.  We now have an ovarian cyst forum.  Do create your own post on that forum.

Med Help moved your post to the cyst forum so I will answer here.  Please get to your doctor and ask for a transvaginal ultrasound to see if you have cysts or something else causing your issues.  You shouldn't have to live with this and stress does not cause it.  Good luck and let us know how it goes.

My significant other just went through what is a remarkable new process, not surgical, for fibroids.

I'd have to get MANY details from her, but the "overview" is that
1 - yes, she looked pregnant, too, couldn't seem to lose weight.

2 - was having bowel movement difficulties -- not alarming, but in retrospect, a sign of the problem

3 - She heard of a new ultrasound "ablation" (focused ultrasound), in which they put you in a cat scan / mri, and watching carefully, blast away at the fibroids.

The process was not too lengthy, not very uncomfortable, required no sedation or surgery, was done on an out patient basis, and seems to have significantly reduced the fibroids.

Our insurance company, American Family, covered the process, which is good as it is probably a safer and lower cost alternative to traditional surgery.

This ABC News 7 chicago note discusses it:
http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=news/health&id=5056677

I hope URLs are allowed, if not, here's a fractured one:

abclocal . go . com / wls / story ? section = news / health&id=5056677
Remove the spaces and add the usual h t t p : / / to it.

There are not many places doing this treatment yet - one is in the northern Chicago suburbs, one in Texas, and I recall the other perhaps Mayo.  yet .. . it is well enough received as I said to have the insurance accept it, etc.

I've added this to my watch list - hope that means getting emails on it.

P.S. i showed up here to try to help out my sister-in-law who is undergoing chemo and radiation for multiple cancers, e.g. lymph, a growth that squeezed closed her one kidney exit tube (ureter? or is that after the bladder?) and they had to put a stent (?) in to open it up and relieve pain.

ANYWAY, she's losing weight, and shouldn't, and has soy and corn allergies, which rules out ENSURE and Boost.

I don't want to start a thread HERE, but if you have ideas, reply, and steer me to the right place to post.  "Urgent" as the process is like 5 weeks, and we're looking for supplements soon.

BTW, Debra's original fibroid was listed as "Melon" sized (that's bigger than a grapefruit).

Apparently fibroids "feed" on estrogen, so anti-estrogen drugs are first given to try to reduce the size of the fibroid, before the ultrasound / mri / ablation process.

The drugs induce (temporary?) early menopause,  and at 50 she thought it might be permanent, but alas not.

Oh, and I forgot to say that excessive menopausal bleeding was part of her symptoms.

I so understand the frustration. I have been having problems for almost 2 years. I look like I am atleast 7 months pregnant, some days more. I have had surgery for endom. and then a partial hyst.. I have had CT scans, ultrasounds, put on diabetes meds, thyroid meds. Nobody knows. Some days, like today. I just cry and cry. I am constantly buying new clothes but I keep out growing the others. I have put on 50+ pounds in less than two years. Tried diets, can't hardly exercise. Can't tie my shoes or bend down to pic something up when seated. If I didn't know myself and I saw me in a store I would think I was pregnant. I am a substiute teacher so I see alot of kids and bless their hearts they are so honest, they are always asking about me having a baby. But today when my sons former teacher asked if I was counting down the days and I realized she was talking about a due date, I flipped out. I can't do it anymore. I am so depressed, I just want to stay home and hide. Why can't anyone figure out what is wrong with me.

Twitch, we sound like twins. Tonight while swimming the lifeguard said it must be nice on my back to be swimming. i couldn't figure out what she was talking about until I realized she thought I was pregnant. I am always getting this. I too am on diabetes meds with no results. Was on birth control for PCOS but had pulmonary embolii and can no longer take hormones due to a blood clotting disorder. I am going for a physical in a few weeks and after reading all of this I'm going to ask about cysts and other potential growths.
