Your health comes first. I wouldn't be shy about ruffling feathers. See that gyn/onc. You'll be glad you did. They have more medical education than gyn's. And given the choice, I wouldn't trust any other specialist for surgery.
When I say partial they told me they took my uterus and cervix. I still have my ovaries. The endo was only on the uterus and tubes from what the report said and it was mild. I do have an gyn/oncolgist that I can see. I have been told that they would be better at suregery when there is adhesians. Becuase this gyn/oncolgist is part of the same hospital and works with my gyn I don't want to ruffle any feathers. But I don't want to keep dealing with this pain and all the other issues.
There have been others that posted here that had confused test results. It seems that once you have scar tissue, adhesions, endo and/or cysts present at the same time they have a much harder time understanding what they see. I would think endo should have been removed with the uterus. When you say partial, do you mean some portion of the uterus remains, such as the lower portion by the cervix? Some endo-prone women can get a regrowth of endo even after a hysterectomy if not a total one. The doctors need to figure this out.
If the option is available to you, your best bet is a referral to a gynecologist/oncologist. They are much better at distinguishing what these things are and are also much more adept surgeons if the need arises.
See thats why I'm confussed....The report said a complex 4cm cyst with septations....Then when I saw my GYN who did part of one of my surgerys said that the report from my hysterectomy stated mild endometriosis but not on my ovaries...So he thinks that is a possible cause...I don't understand!! I guess I feel that the report from the ultrasound says more than a feeling the dr has...I only says this becuase there was mild endometriosis and it was not on my ovaries. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Endometriosis is a whole different matter. I can also look complex but it is not the same as a complex cyst. It's not great to have either, but it's better than a real complex cyst.
Thanks MarieMichele, I hope surgery is not necessary. I hate the idea of more pain but, surgery would be worse. I also am worried about the "complex" part being cancer. But I do not have ovarian cancer in the family that I know of. I know that the cyst was 4cm at the ultrasound which was about 1 month ago. I will monitor my temp just to make sure. I have always had problems with cysts but never like this. The dr says he thinks endometriosis is likely the cause.
If the BCP is doing anything to cause the cyst to break down (possible) then it is going to hurt if it starts leaking fluids. Your body must reabsorb this and treats it like a foreign object in the meantime. Sometimes resolving cysts can lead to pelvic infections, then leading to a need for antibiotics. This is all just guesswork, of course. That is why follow up is necessary. If you start running an abnormal body temperature, I would suspect infection.
If it does come down to surgery (I pray not), then you are probably going to be facing open surgery (laparotomy) to get to it. Let's be optimistic it resolves and that won't be necessary.
