Surgery is over

Hi Everyone,
Thanks to all for the good wishes and support. I had the surgery on the 15th. I had robotic hysertectomy, BSO and appendectomy. The doc will have all the path results next week. He said I had some big fibroids, severe endo and endometriomas which had my uterus and ovaries cemented to each other and attached to my rectum. He said it was quite a mess. It was a 5 hour surgery but thankfully the frozen sections all looked good. Now just waiting for the final path. Im really quite optomistic though. Im really glad it's over. I am scaling back on the pain med today. I feel so much better and the Dilaudid just makes me sleep. I know IM feeling better, cuz Im getting kinda bored already. lol
Ok, will keep you all posted. Hope everyone is having a great weekend and feeling good.
God Bless
Laney

The pain your having when you pee is due to the catheter you had during the surgery, it irritates the muscle that we feel when we have the urge to go. I was told to watch out for signs of a UTI too, so tell the doctor when he calls so he can decide if you need to go on an anti-biotic. Try drinking some cranberry juice too, the kind without sugar, it's good for the bladder.
You need to stay on top of the pain meds too so the pain doesn't get ahead of you, otherwise it's going to keep waking you up when it wears off. Get a notepad and jot down when you take them, try to take your last dose for the day right before you go to bed. I forgot to do this for the first few days and would wake in the middle of the night feeling awful.
Your bowels are going to be out of whack for a bit, and the worst feeling is having no use at all of your abdominal muscles at all to help you out. You'll feel so much better once you get moving. Try miralax if all else fails, it has no stimulants or fiber in it and won't give you any gas pains.
My surgeon told me walking around the house is good, it helps the muscles heal, but don't overdo it and stay up all day. I did and starting getting dizzy, so take some naps if you can during the day.
Also, drink a lot of water to flush all the stuff you got in the hospital out of your system and it will help your bladder a lot too.
Glad to hear feeling good
Valerie

You guys are the best. I really had an awesome surgeon. He is as kind and genuine as he is skilled. He has called me a few times just to check on me which I think is just unheard of anymore. I have been waking up in so much pain the last couple of days and I think it is because I haven't been taking the pain med enough. I think I might have a UTI but Im not sure. I am peeing like all the time and when I have to pee, I have alot of pain prior. Hmmm, what do you guys think? Also, my bowels are whacked.....ugh. Im taking stool softeners and the doc told me to get some MOM which I took last night, but I tell ya, I have like a ton of pain and can't push....ugh. I also took some prune juice which I hope just helps. Im just trying to relax and chill and walk around a bit. I know I shouldn't overdo but most of the time I feel pretty good....
Again, thanks so much for all the support and kind words. You guys ROCK....
Love ya all

Thanks for asking about my surgery. I had a 4 hour laparoscopy after the surgeon discovered a suspicious cyst on the right ovary and a tumor on the left. She opted to do a bilateral oopherectomy and salpingectomy. Thankfully the paths came back benign. It will just be 2 weeks this Tuesday and she told me it's going to take at least 4 to 6 weeks for a total recovery due to the length of the surgery and what was done. Had some help from my brothers but I'm on my own now so I've been doing too much to soon, will have an aid for the next few weeks so it will give me chance to rest and heal.

I am happy things went well.  Don't over do it too quickly.  Even if you feel great, take it easy.  I am now 16 months post-op and today I did nothing but take it easy!  LOL  Glad to hear you are okay.  Marie

I'm glad to hear everything went so well and your now home resting and recovering. Good news on the frozen sections!  Get plenty of sleep, and then just take it slow at first. I should follow my own advice, I was really overdoing it, was cleaning and bending too much, now it hurts a lot more again. Today I'm in bed watching old movies on TV and letting everything go, except for feeding my pets.
Have a peaceful weekend,
Valerie
