Removal of ovarian cyst

Hi.  I'm 37 and am 6 weeks pregnant.  My dr found a cyst in my ovary that's quite large.  I'm going tomorrow for another ultrasound so they can measure the cyst.  She said that if the cyst is over 12 cm, it will have to come out immediately and I'll miscarry.  If it's 8-12 cm, I can wait until the baby is 12 weeks old, then we can remove it.  She said by that time, the placenta will be formed and the child could live.  I'm curious as to what the delineating factor is that says this cyst must be removed.  From what she said and what I've read, the cyst appears to be fluid filled.  I didn't see any solid material within the cyst.  The dr said the same.  That leads me to believe that the cyst will be benign.  Is there a reason that a 12, 13, 14 cm benign cyst (yes I'm making a lot of assumptions) would absolutely need removed immediately?  At this point, I'm considering refusing surgery to give the baby a chance to live.  Thanks for the advice.

I'm so glad things worked out with your son.  I've had several friends tell me similar stories.  One in particular had the doctors tell her to take her daughter home, remove the braces from her arms and legs and just enjoy her because she wouldn't live through the week.  Her daughter is now 18.  You just never know.  Thanks for the encouragement.

Well, went for the ultrasound today to get the cyst measured.  The tech wouldn't tell me the results of course but it really doesn't matter at this point.  What she did was let me hear the baby's heartbeat.  I really don't think there's anything the doctor could tell me to make me do the surgery in the first trimester.  If it hasn't burst or shrunk by mid second trimester, I'll consider the surgery but at this point, both the father and I are agreed that the risks are fairly low.  Wow the ultrasound made the pregnancy real!  Thanks for the responses guys.  I'll keep you up to date.

well did you ask another obgyn? you have some on this site, i would think it might break on its own if its that big since your hormonal it probably did grow, and may shrink as your hormones change  so get a 2nd or 3 opinion as a  christian or other religious standard  they live and let live for child birth so its all up to you and your values i guess , i had to make a choice and i chose to give birth they thought he has spinal bifida and well it closed up, before he was born he has a wider space but hes normal and hes 20 yrs 11/18 so unless your life is in danger or the baby i would hold off  what if it is a cancer and you can never give birth again at least you have this baby  but again its your choice , the Lord giveth the Lord taketh , hope your ok either way
