Ovarian Cyst Treatment

I have a 6 cm cyst on my right ovary. The GYN doctor has recommended a total hysterectomy for me because I also have endometriosis.

I had a cyst removed from my left ovary ~10 years ago, at which time they discovered the endometriosis. However, they did not do a hysterectomy at that time.

I'm 46 and in good shape otherwise. I'm nowhere near menopause that I can tell and don't want to be on any more hormone replacements. I'm hypothyroid and take levothroid. I do not want a hysterectomy. Do I have any options?

If your not having pain and symptoms from the endo that lessen your quality of life I would just focus on getting rid of the cyst.  Trying Bcp to get rid of the cyst is what I've done. I also have had two ovarian cysts removed surgically. Acupuncture is sometimes helpful with the Bcp (birth control pills) along with supplements/herbs they sometimes give.
Get a second opinion if your dr is pushing a surgery you know you are not ready to have. It's your body and you will be stuck on hormone replacement therapy long term if you go for the hysterectomy!
Best wishes to you!

Yeah these hormones do crazy things, I'm on lots for ivf and feel like a crazy person and wake up with hot flashes, I guess I'm getting an early glimpse of menopause. Your body natural progression to menopause I would think would be easier to handle to some point.  Best of luck to you!

That makes sense since I might need a hyst later on. I do have a lot of pain every month but I've lived with it most of my life. I don't see the need to hasten me to menopause.

I know what it's like to be on hormone replacement and there is no substitute for that which your body produces naturally. I wish I had had an option with my thyroid problem.

Thank you so much for your kind support. :)

I'm glad you have another appointment lined up. Honestly if your not ready for a hysterectomy then I say work on getting rid of the cyst. The only thing I can think of is that maybe she wanted to remove the cyst surgically since its 6cm and thought a hysterectomy would get you out of needing 2 surgeries in your future. A scope to get rid of a cyst is pretty easy on you and easy to do.  Good luck to you! If I can help you in any other way just message me!

Thank you very much for your kind and caring response, Ginger. :)

I've already made an appointment for a second opinion. I think it's really odd that she didn't at least put me on BC pills for the time being. She wants to do another ultrasound in 6-8 weeks, but she could've had me on the pill in the meantime I would think...
