Pain with cysts

I just had a D&C and a thermal ablation on Aug. 11. This was following a vaginal ultrasound that showed cysts on both ovaries, fibroids, and endometriosis. I went for a follow-up appointment with gyn/surgeon and she showed me pictures taken during my surgery. I asked about the ovarian cysts. She pointed them out on the pictures. One on the right and a larger one on the left. She said they looked fine. She said if this surgery did not help things, we may need to go further. Since my surgery, I'm still having the pain in my lower left side. I wonder if this is b/c of the cysts. My question is, I guess, can ovarian cysts cause this pain even if they look ok? Maybe this is just b/c it's only been a week or so since my surgery. Should I give it more time before thinking the cysts are still causing problems? Of course I would give it more time before considering another surgery.

The only thing I don't understand is why she didn't remove the cysts while she was already there.................
Are you taking any hormones to help shrink the cysts?  Mine would always shrink but come back bigger and they always brought more "friends" to the party (haha).  What stage of Endo do you have?  Endo can grow back.......fast.  It just sounds like you need to talk to her again and get more answers to your concerns.  Everyone is so different and it seems difficult to get uniformed answers...............frustrating!
I hope I haven't confused you more............  :).

This is my first time. I am 43 yrs old and have had my tubes tied a long time ago. I am done with children so I don't know why she wouldn't just take everything. You would think with fibroids, endo, and cysts that they would. I think it's for the money of repeated procedures. This dr. is my second opinion. Maybe I need a third. My first gyn would not even talk to me about anything. She kept telling me 'that's normal' for everything I asked her. that's why I went to my current gyn. She immediately scheduled a vaginal ultrasound and then these procedures. I thought she was just wonderful b/c she listened and actually did something. She was such a step up from what I had. I have not been talked to about Lupron. She said the ablation would stop the endo from coming back also, if I understood right. And I agree, cysts HURT. I don't know why she didn't remove the cysts. That's a good question!

Cysts HURT!!!  No matter what kind or what size, they are NO FUN!  If she was in the area during surgery, why not remove the cysts?  Is this your first surgery for Endo?  I have had so many for Endo, always begging my Dr just to get everything out.  I had a partial Hyst 3 yrs ago and then my ovaries out almost exactly 2 yrs later.  They kept saying I was too young.  I kept telling them I was too young for all this pain!!!!!FRUSTRATING!!!!
Has your Dr. talked to you about Lupron shots?  Lupron is supposed to help control the endo and help slow down the regrowth.  Are you on hormone therapy for the cysts?  It sounds like you need to talk to your Dr again and maybe get a 2nd opinion............

Hope you feel better soon!

I'm pretty sure dr. said they are simple cysts. Yes, I did have the same pain before surgery. I know I am probably being paranoid and need to give this more time to see if it goes away. Maybe going back to work tomorrow will take my mind off it. I just hope I'm ready. Thank you and I will let you know anything else I find out.

I am like Colleen above, did the doctor tell you what kind of cysts that you have.  I am pretty sure irregardless of the kind they can and do cause pain.  I have had some pretty small simple cysts to very large dermoid cysts.  Some caused a great deal of pain and others were just a dull ache and the size did not matter.  Did you have the pain on the lower left side before the surgery.

Let us know.  We are thinking of you.

She didn't say what kind they were or the size. She just told me they were not cancer. I had the D&C and ablation for heavy bleeding and pain. She said she got all the endometriosis out and the ablation should keep me from bleeding so heavy. She didn't seem at all concerned about the cysts. I hate to 'beat a dead horse' but these cysts concern me! I am afraid that even after all this other being done that I will still have the same sharp pains in my lower left side like before. I just wanted this to take care of it all. I begged her to go ahead and do a hysterectomy and she wouldn't. She also did a laproscopic exploratory... whatever it's called to look around. It's just confusing!

I hope that I don't sound too confused, but what was the reason for the D&C and the ablation? Bleeding, which is the usual cause? I can't remember, Karen, and I am sorry for that.  Definitely, the cysts can cause pain, that is very common. My doctor (original) told me that no, they do not but having been on this board, I now know that they can and do!
Did the doctor say what kind of cysts she thought they were? Sorry for all the questions, hopefully, someone else more knowledgeable will come along to help you. I hope that you will feel better soon!
