Spotting before periods for last 6 months

Ok so I posted a little while ago wanting to know if anyone had experience with having a rim enhanced complex cyst....so here is the full story.  Had Ct scan 8 months ago for appendicitis and they saw a 1cm complex cyst on left ovary.  Dr's performed laparoscopy to remove appendix and checked out the ovary.....said it "looked" fine and left it alone.  Fast forward to now.  Had follow up CT scan and the complex cysts is still there (now with this rim enhanced stuff??????) and it is 2cm.  I have not had any unusual pain however I have had dark brown spotting for one week prior to my periods for the last 5 months.  So this past Saturday (7 days prior to when I should start) the spotting started, then Sunday morning it was bright red blood so I assumed that I had started my period early. BUT it stopped within an hour and went back to dark brown spotting.  I am seeing my doc on Friday but do you think the spotting could be tied to the cyst?  Just interested in any personal experiences out there.

Thank you for sharing

Thank you both for reading and responding.  I think my nervousness comes from the abnormal bleeding!  I had emergency surgery 8 years ago from a ruptured ovarian cyst that was bleeding (the blood "clot" was the size of a coke can and growing).  Since then i have had many cysts and surgeries and already had my right ovary removed..so I olnly hav the one left and I would really like to keep it.  BUT i have never had the bleeding before and it *****. its like having a period two out of every four months!

Thanks again ladies.

Hi,
I got curious myself so googled "rim enhanced ovarian cyst" and one result came back as "ruptured corpus luteum cyst" and it does cause bleeding .. you may want to check that out.. there are other results as well..(the corpus luteum cyst is quite common I believe) ..

Hi, I'm sorry that no one is answering.  It may be b/c there can be so many symptoms and problems with cysts and everyone is different.  Personally, I did not spot when I had my cysts but that doesn't mean it can't happen.  I think cysts, when they grow and get out of hand, upset our hormones so maybe that's why you're spotting?  You said you have a doctor appointment on Friday so please ask him/her about it.

I have not heard of a rim enhanced complex cyst so I can't answer about that but I'm sure your doctor will explain it.  I'd write down all your questions to ask and don't leave until you are satisfied you understand what is going on.

Good luck and please let us know what the rim enhanced cyst is.  I'm curious.
