Woke up sick 2days ago, and surgery is on the 9th

I woke up 2days ago with chest congestion and a stuffy nose. I am having a laparoscopy on the 9th. Do i have to call the doctor and tell him? Will they reschedule my surgery?

Yes, you should let your Dr. know. The same thing happened last year when I was scheduled for my laparoscopy. I thought it was a simple cold.. but I did mention it to Dr. . It went from that to coughing my brains out within a day or so of my procedure. I was concerned about the coughing during the procedure.. She let me know it wasn't that.. (the drugs would suppress the coughing) but the chance of furthering any possible infection AND the likelihood of pulling the stitches after the procedure ! Not worth it ! Was glad we postponed for 2 weeks since the coughing got worse and found later it was probably a flu bug that had invaded SW Florida.. even though I had the flu shot.. I coughed constantly !! ( a different virus evidently )

Good luck with it and hopefully it is just a cold.. but let's not take chances ..

I had a stress test before my surgery because of my wacky heart. There isn't much heavy breathing involved because they're watching the heart rate and blood pressure. I thought it was pretty easy when I expected something much worse. But if you're having a productive cough, you should call the doctor. At least let them listen to your lungs to make sure you don't have bronchitis. They appreciate advance notice instead of walking in the day of the test or surgery with a cough. I hope it's just a standard cold and you clear up soon.

I already feel better, but still have stuffy nose and phlemy cough. Also i went to see a cardioligist for dizziness. Now I have to have a Nuclear stress test (run on treadmill) on the 6th. Since i am having the test my gyno said the heart doctor has to clear me for surgery. I am going to call both doctors tomorrow and let them know i am sick. Cant have the surgery, until i have the stress test, and dont know if they will let me do the test with chest congestion.

A lot of doctors won't do surgery if you're sick because of the added risks with the anesthesia. I got sick before my surgery too, but I was much better by the day.  What they told me was that I would be fine as long as I wasn't having any trouble breathing on that day. It's okay if they reschedule, though I know how frustrating that can be; better safe than sorry, right? Do talk to your doctor, but you will probably be better by then, don't you think? It's still a few days away. Talk to your doctor. Good luck.

If I was you I would call my doctor.  I wouldn't want to be sick plus deal with surgery.  It is hard though, I know a couple of people who have the stomach flu.  I am hoping I won't get that because my lap is on Jan. 13th.  Hope you feel better.
