advice

I just found out that I have an ovarian cyst on my left ovary which is 48 millimeters by 46 by 38. The size of my right ovary is 30 by 18. My doctor wants to me have it surgically removed by laparoscopy. I am just starting to experience discomfort on my left side. I am 45 years old. How concerned do I have to be that the lab analysis won't come out "clean"? I also have cystic breasts and they have been causing me great discomfort lately.

99% of ovarian cysts are benign as I have been told my such great friends that belong to the ovarian cancer forum.

That is the best I can do to reassure you.  I hope you get the answers you are looking for from someone soon :)

Cysts are usually benign. The risk of cancer increases with age and after menopause, if the cyst is complex or solid or irregular, but even then it can be benign. Mostly the size and discomfort they cause leads to the need for surgery...that and the fact it is impossible to be completely certain a cyst is benign until it is removed. "If in doubt, take it out." One rarely gets past the worry until after the surgery. Just knowing a cyst is there is upsetting. My doctors had me fearing the worst and it turned out benign. Maybe I needed that scare so I would go through with the surgery. I do not have answers regarding breast issues. I had those problems in the past but it resolved after menopause. Reducing caffeine intake seems to help also.
